We will sack Jose Peseiro if– NFF board member

Peseiro has not been underwhelming since taking charge of the Super Eagles, but NFF’s hands are tied

Nse Essien, director of the Nigeria Football Federation, has said he is dissatisfied with Jose Peseiro’s performance as Super Eagles coach. However, they cannot fire him because they cannot afford to pay him, reports Soccer Net.

Portuguese tactician Peseiro took over as manager of the Super Eagles in May 2022, but failed to impress. Braga’s former coach arrived with an extensive resume. However, his low success rate and tendency to get fired from previous jobs was notable.

Since Peseiro’s appointment, he has won only 6 of 13 games. The Super Eagles haven’t improved since Gernot Trolle was fired in 2021.

Nigeria began its journey to the 2026 World Cup last week with matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe. The Super Eagles were favorites to win but had a very disappointing result, with Lesotho drawing in Abuja and sharing the spoils with Zimbabwe in Rwanda.

Following recent results, Nigerian soccer fans are calling for Peseiro’s sacking. But NFF director Essien made it clear it was a complicated situation.

“It’s a shame that we only have 2 points instead of 6 after 2 games” Essien said. OJB Sports.

“We are in a very difficult situation. But if the NFF says we should fire the coach, we haven’t hired him.

It will be.

“If you look closely, it was the Ministry of Sports that hired him. They had to pay his salary, and so far they haven’t paid a penny. .

“If I fire the coach now, who will pay the compensation?” The trainer, who earns about $70,000 a month, was not paid a penny. If you sack him, you are leaving us in charge and Nigerians will also crucify us.

“We have to honor his contract, but if we have the money to give it, why not buy it out because we are not satisfied? ”

With the Africa Cup of Nations just weeks away, Nigeria finds itself in a precarious position. Considering their recent performances, it looks like the Super Eagles won’t be good enough to win gold in Ivory Coast.
