The Super Eagles will be hoping to get back to winning ways after dropping points against Lesotho, but Zimbabwe have no intention of making it easy for them.
Zimbabwe coach Bartemar Brito has declared that he will not respect Nigeria in the second leg of their 2026 World Cup qualifiers, reported Soccer.
The Super Eagles will face Zimbabwe on Sunday at Stade Feuillet in Rwanda. Both teams come into the match with similar records.
Zimbabwe suffered a tough draw in Rwanda, but Jose Peseiro and his players managed to beat Lesotho to a disappointing 1-1 draw at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
The Super Eagles will aim to get back to winning ways against the Warriors on Sunday. Nigeria are considered favorites due to the quality of their team. They are also destined to win if they are to qualify for the World Cup, especially after South Africa’s win over Benin on Saturday.
However, the Warriors coach said they will go into the game against Nigeria with the aim of winning as well.
“At this level, all opponents are playing to win. We (Zimbabwe) will also play to beat Nigeria,” said Bartemaar ZFA page.
“Nigeria drew in the first match (against Lesotho), so people will expect revenge from Nigeria.
“But they are not playing against small or weak countries. They will be strong, but we will also be strong. We are here to confront them. ”
If South Africa defeats Rwanda in the second leg, a draw would put Nigeria in a dangerous position. Only group leaders automatically receive World Cup tickets.
