Nigeria has many fond memories of the African Cup of Nations, but one that stands out is of Boniface.
Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has revealed that one of his fondest memories was Sunday Mba’s goal in the 2013 final, reported Soccernet.ng.
Nigeria has won AFCON three times and these victories hold many memories. However, some stuck around more than others.
Bayer Leverkusen superstar Boniface is hoping to create new memories for Nigeria when AFCON begins in Ivory Coast next year. He now has some memories of his own.
He revealed that one of his fondest memories was Sunday Mba’s goal in the 2023 final against Burkina Faso. Mba preempted a spilled ball outside the penalty area, beat a defender and volleyed the ball home for the goal, sealing Nigeria’s status as champions.
“I remember when Mba scored that goal on Sunday (in the final against Burkina Faso), it was a really big moment for Nigeria at the time and we celebrated like crazy. So we I am looking forward to the next AFCON,” Boniface said via Grandma Akatugba
AFCON is just five weeks away, but coach Jose Peceiro has a big job ahead of him. Nigeria have been on a bad run lately and will need something special to match their 2013 performance.
