Watch: Yashasvi Jaiswal rapidly ascended through the gears after Tea on Day Three at Rajkot, smashing James Anderson and Tom Hartley for sixes in consecutive overs en route to his second century of the series.
Jaiswal performed brilliantly as he approached his next Test century, giving India a huge lead in the second innings. He went into the tea break on 19 off 54 balls after losing Rohit Sharma just before the break. He continued at a similar pace after the break, reaching 30 off 65 balls. However, Jaiswal pulled away after India’s lead crossed 200 runs.
On the third strike of the sixth over of Anderson’s innings, Jaiswal was given a short ball that reached waist height. He quickly picked up his length and pulled it into his leg side, and the ball crashed into the advertising board. He followed with four in a row, the first a loose hit on a long throw to deep third man and the second a one-time rebound move behind the square.
With these limitations, Jaiswal scored 49 runs and reached his half-century in the next over with six off Hartley. He was given a knee-high full toss and had to fend off the spinners, but he fired well for duration. The next over was also sent over the ropes at long-on and Jaiwal danced down the wicket for another full toss and hit it back some more.
Jaiswal reached his century in 122 balls and also gave six hits to Joe Root and Rehan Ahmed. His hundred will be his second in the series after he scored two runs in the second Test in Vizag. Though it is only his seventh time playing in a Test match, Jaiswal still has three centuries and his two fifties to his name.
