Watch: Left-arm seamer Mir Hamza cleaned up David Warner and Travis Head off consecutive deliveries to set off a hat-trick chance, staging a fightback for Pakistan against Australia on the third day of the Boxing Day Test at MCG on December 28.
After taking a 54-run lead in the first innings, Australia resumed their second at 6-2 after lunch, after a strange delay when third base umpire Richard Illingworth was caught in a lift. . However, the second half did not get off to the best start.
Mir Hamza bowled three consecutive overs on the day and hit a delivery just over a length from off. Warner tried to force it but hacked it towards the stumps from the inside edge. On the very next ball, Hamza, playing all-round, cleared Travis his head with a full in-swing beauty and got his golden duck.
Hamza looked excited and bursting with joy before celebrating with his teammates. Warner’s dismissal wiped out his last Test victory at the MCG, but the victory earned him a rapturous reception from the crowd.
Ball tracking revealed that the ball hit by the header swung high in the air and if it had flown straight, it would have missed the stumps with a long shot.
