Watch: Tilak Varma Smashes Marco Jansen For Six With India 6-2 After Two Overs

Watch: India were 6-2 after two overs, but that did not prevent Tilak Varma from whacking Marco Jansen for six in the third over of the innings.

After the first T20I of the three-match series was washed out, South Africa won the toss with two overs at Gebera and struck twice in the first two overs to reduce India to 6-2. Neither of his two initiators, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, have opened accounts.

Marco Jansen bowled the third over to Tilak Varma, who had played 7 for 4 balls so far. Jansen bowled on his pads and Tilak bowled the ball over backward square leg and into the stands. This was India’s first innings boundary.

Tilak dismissed Jansen for three fours in the same over. In the fifth over, when Lizard Williams bowled the ball outside the off-stumps, Tilak exposed all three stumps and scooped the ball past the wicketkeeper for the fourth over. He then went to the ground and was caught by Gerard Coetzee in the deep third, hitting him for a 20-ball 29.

“Even though they (India) lost wickets early on, you still saw every batsman who played today trying to score runs.” Tilak Varma came close to falling twice and scored 20 points. I scored 29 runs…I think that’s really our template…looking at the young Indian batsmen…I think that’s something the management and selectors have to decide on – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli is a bit outdated compared to this new generation of T20 – batting,” Sanjay Manjrekar joked on air.

At the time of writing, India were 180-7 after 19.3 overs as play was halted due to rain. Suryakumar Yadav (56 off 36) and Rinku Singh (68 off 39) both scored half-centuries for India.
