Watch: In the first over of his first-class career, Somerset debutant Shoaib Bashir spun his off-breaks twice past the outside edge of Alastair Cook. This caught the eye of England captain Ben Stokes, leading up to his upcoming Test debut against India in Vizag.

Bashir has since taken 10 first-class wickets, averaging 67.
His pass to Cook was Ben Stokes’ first look at Bashir. Impressed by what he saw, Stokes asked Rob Key (director of cricket) and Brendon McCullum (head coach) to watch him during India’s Test tour.
“The first time I saw him was on Twitter. I think the County Championship [account] had put together little clips of him bowling with Sir Alastair,” Stokes said in Vizag. He spoke two days before the second India-England Test.
“I’m in a WhatsApp group with Keysy and Baz. I actually forwarded that clip and said, ‘Look at this, this is on our India tour. Maybe we can work together,” and it went from there. He was selected for the Lions tour and of course the coach on that tour taught him everything. ”
He was called up to the England Lions team to attend a training camp in the United Arab Emirates and so impressed the England management that he received a call-up to the five-Test series in India. won and will be participating in the future. His Test debut came in the second match of the series at Visakhapatnam.
