Watch: Shubman Gill was given a reprieve early on in the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup Super Fours game today (September 10) as an outside edge off Naseem Shah flew through first and second slips in the eighth over of the innings.
Gill made a confident start in Colombo with a 32-ball 10 against the same opposition last week. He took Shaheen Shah Afridi to his sixes in his two overs, including a picturesque and tense drive on the track.
However, Naseem Shah on the other side was breathing fire and making life difficult for Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma played a few times but was absent.
Gill faced Naseem in the eighth round and had more success than his first partner. He delivered his trademark backfoot punch and scored a new boundary. But two balls later, Naseem almost got his revenge.
When Gill threw up his hand, the short, wide ball bounced to his outside edge. However, the ball went between the first and second slips. Mohammad Rizwan, who was guarding the fielder, seemed to want to catch the ball with his glove and took a few steps to the right past the fielder, which may have pushed the fielder away. In the end, no one tried to catch the ball and it ran toward the outside boundary.
Gill added 24 more runs to his tally but was dismissed by Shaheen for 58 off 52 balls.
