Watch: Shakib Al Hasan went past Najibullah Zadran‘s defences and uprooted his leg stump with a slider in Bangladesh’s opening match of the World Cup against Afghanistan on October 7 in Dharamsala.
Bangladesh won the toss and were selected to play at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Afghanistan is off to a good start. Ibrahim Zadran scored 22 of his 25 runs and Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 47 of his 62 runs, but they started to self-destruct midway through the innings.
With a score of 112-2 in 24.3 overs, Afghanistan were bowled out for 156, scoring just 44 for their last seven wickets. Her two spinners of Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan and Mehdi Hasan Miraz, were the main destroyers, each taking her three wickets.
Shakib has acquired three of the top five Afghans, including Ibrahim, Rahmat Shah and Najibullah Zadran. Najibullah’s dismissal was particularly noteworthy as Shakib completely outmaneuvered the left-handed Najibullah.
Shakib bowled over the wicket and delivered a slider, which fell to the middle stumps. Najibullah took a turn, but the ball hit him directly in the arm, went over the outside edge and crashed into the middle and leg, tearing the stump of his leg.
Shakib bowled 8 overs and ended the game with a score of 3-30. Mehidi, on the other hand, finished the match with 3 wins and 25 losses in 9 overs. Six of Afghanistan’s bottom seven batting line-ups failed to cross 10 runs, while every Bangladeshi bowler bowled more than one picked at least one wicket.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, got off to a rocky start as they lost openers Tanjid Hasan and Litton Das in the first 10 overs. Tanjim was sent off after a nice direct hit from Najibullah, while Litton was bowled by Fazalhaq Farooqi.
