Watch: Shaheen Afridi and Luke Wood ran three on the last ball of the ILT20 clash against MI Emirates to register a nail-biting victory for Desert Vipers yesterday (January 30).
Needing 150 to win, Vipers were 140-8 after 19 overs and needed 10 to win the last six balls. Trent Boult, who was responsible for ending the game for Michigan Emirates, conceded four runs in his first three balls, reducing his tally from three to six. Shaheen’s final ball for a strike quickly brought the score to three.
Boult sent a fuller ball, and the batter threw hard to the third man, who had no fielders. When a fielder came in from the sweeper cover and picked up the ball, both batters hit doubles. They also went for a header in the third over, but Shaheen could have been in trouble if the throw had been from the non-striker side. However, he had enough time to finish his run as the throw was on the wrong end.
Shaheen jumped to the finish line, took off his helmet and celebrated by raising his arms in the air. Quick was 17-of-12 without a loss, while Wood had six run-a-balls.
