Shaheen burst in to bowl 31 off the wicket. On the fourth ball of the over, Mahmudullah played on the wrong line and the ball landed long and swung out of the right-handed batsman’s hands. The ball hit the top of the middle stumps and kissed Mahmudullah’s pads on the way. Mahmudullah had to return to the dressing room 56 out of 70 times.
As a result, Bangladesh fell to 133-5 after 31 overs. Mahmudullah seemed well prepared, having scored his first goal in a half-century against South Africa earlier in the tournament. With his 274 runs in 5 matches, he is currently Bangladesh’s top scorer in the tournament.
Early in the game, Shaheen hit two in the first two overs, sending Tanjid Hasan for a duck and vice-captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for 4(3). The left-arm seamer has taken 16 wickets in the tournament so far, making him joint top wicket-taker in the 2023 World Cup with Adam Zampa.
Pakistan will be looking to reverse their four-game losing streak in the tournament after losses to India, Afghanistan, South Africa and Australia. They are currently in seventh place in the standings after six games.
