India got off to a poor start after being approached to play England. Shubman Gill (9), Virat Kohli (0) and Shreyas Iyer (4) fell cheaply, falling to 40-3 in 11.5 overs. The batsman fell while trying to bat on a quiet Lucknow wicket. Rohit was aggressive from the beginning and kept hitting shots. During the build-up period, he forged a 91-run partnership with his KL Rahul, with the latter being dismissed for 58-ball 39.
In the 24th over, Wood bowled an erratic shot on the fourth ball and the ball was deflected to the leg side. Rohit, then 52, seized the opportunity and turned him around to flick the ball off his hip. When he closed his racket, the ball flew over his thin legs six times.
