Watch: Reece Topley picked up his third wickets in his opening spell in Dharamsala today (October 10), bowling Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan with a beauty that trimmed the off-stump bail.
Topley had already gotten England’s bowling innings off to a fast start, taking two wickets from two balls in his first over. The left winger returned for England’s second World Cup match, replacing Moeen Ali, after the opening match loss to New Zealand. Tanjid Hasan slipped the fourth ball of the match and Najmul Hossain Shanto sunk the drive for a golden duck.
Back to bowling in the third over, the big left-hander delivered three runs and dismissed the dangerous Shakib with a perfect delivery. He bowled the ball long and guided Shakib onto the front foot. Rather than swinging away from the left-hander, the ball stayed in line and snaked past the outside edge of Shakib’s bat.
Only the bracket was cut from the top of the tree stump and it flew into the air, but all three tree stumps remained on the ground.
Topley bowled two more dot balls to end the over and take his first wicket, taking Bangladesh to 26-3. Things got worse three overs later as Chris Woakes caught Mehidi Hasan Miraz behind him and the powerplay made it 49-4 chasing 365.
