Watch: Ravindra Jadeja Spoons Shoaib Bashir Full Toss To Mid-Wicket Straight After Lunch

England’s slim hopes of forcing a series-levelling victory received a major boost early in the second session on day four in Ranchi after Ravindra Jadeja spooned an innocuous Shoaib Bashir delivery straight to Jonny Bairstow at mid-wicket.

India started the day in complete control of the Test, resuming play at 40-0 and taking a score of 192. It was only when the score reached 84 that the first wicket fell. Joe his route drew a mistake from Yashasvi and his Jaiswal, and James Anderson made a brilliant diving catch on him in his third short.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma fell in the eighth over, scoring a total of 99, but Shoaib Bashir scored the next over, declaring Rajat Patidar worthless. Shubman Gill and Jadeja were at their best before lunch and led the team to his 118-3 at the break and looked headed for a comfortable victory.

However, Basheer was back on the wicket just after the break and dismissed Jadeja and Sarfaraz Khan with back-to-back deliveries. Jadeja’s wicket came on a rare loose throw by a young English off-spinner. Jadeja bowled a low full toss straight to Bairstow at midwicket, giving England a chance.

Jadeja’s dismissal was reminiscent of Bairstow’s dismissal the previous day after a poor chip off Jadeja’s bowling just after the break. As England’s dramatic collapse at the wicket continues, the visitors hope Jadeja’s dismissal on the fourth day will have a similar effect as they look to keep the series alive until the fifth Test of the tour .
