While bowling in the 18th over of the innings at Eden Gardens, Paul van Meekeren did not allow the newly arrived Mashfikul to turn his bat in the first three tosses.
The pacer went for the kill on the fourth ball of the over. Van Meekeren took the lead from Bumrah while delivering some powerful punches to Mushfiqur Rahim.
Van Meekeren rotated his fingers upon release, causing the ball to land long and hit back from the outside. Mushfiqur played the wrong line, causing his throw to leak through the gap between his racket and pad, causing castling in the process.
This sending off was almost an encore for Bumrah’s mistake in the goal against Mohammad Rizwan earlier in the tournament.
Bangladesh quickly fell back to 70-6 while chasing 230 points at Eden Gardens. In order to cross the finish line, someone needs to be blindfolded.
