Watch: Paul van Meekeren dismissed Aiden Markram with a dream delivery to continue South Africa’s collapse during their clash with the Netherlands in the 2023 World Cup on October 17 (Tuesday).
Chasing 246th in the rain-hit 43-over contest, South Africa made a cautious start but suffered a dramatic collapse, losing four wickets for eight runs. The first bat was denied within seven pitches, and Markram followed soon after, but was denied by a nice cross-seam pitch that was kept low by Van Meekeren.
On the second ball of the 11th over, Van Meekeren sent a long ball towards the batsman. Markram tried to defend the ball with his back foot, but the ball came back through the outside edge and rattled the top of the stumps.
Markram headed into a three-ball game as he dared to recreate his heroics from the 2022 T20 World Cup when the Netherlands defeated South Africa.
