Watch: Pat Cummins lost the plot in the 28th over of India’s innings, dishing a no-ball which landed outside the pitch, a wide down the leg side, and a free hit that was smashed for four by Virat Kohli in the India-Australia World Cup match in Chennai today (October 8).

India’s race to reach the top 200 got off to a rocky start. Ishan Kishan pushed back in the first over for a golden duck and Josh Hazlewood took two wickets in the second over, removing Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer and putting India in a big predicament. I fell into it.

With the score at 2-3, India needed to rebuild. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul did just that, forming a mammoth 165-run four-wicket partnership.

Kohli scored 85 off 116 balls, scoring an unusually slow half-century. Rahul, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 97 and with over eight overs to spare, he took India home by six wickets.

In the 28th over of the innings, Australian captain Cummins had an interesting duel with Kohli but clearly lost. His fourth ball of the over was a no-ball and Cummins tried to play a slower ball that ended up going wide.

Cummins attempted another slow ball, this time a rebound, for a free kick, but it ended up sliding wide to the side of his legs, and the free kick was extended into the next throw .

Finally, Cummins bowled a legal length ball to the stumps and Kohli met it perfectly. Kohli held on and flicked the ball over mid-wicket for a four. A three-ball sequence (a legal ball) got India his six.

Australia were unable to take advantage of their second innings, and Cummins finished the match with 0 wins and 33 losses in 6.2 overs.
