Watch: No.11 Shamar Joseph, On Debut, Launches Leg-side Six Off Josh Hazlewood In Dream All-round Start

Watch: West Indies debutant No.11 Shamar Joseph launched a leg-side six off Josh Hazlewood on day one (17th January) of the first Test against Australia in Adelaide.

After being asked to bat first, West Indies were reeling at 133-9 when debutant Joseph entered the crease. Before this match, he has only played five first-class games for Guyana, all coming in less than a year.

Joseph took the attack to the opposition, playing a breezy cameo comprising some stunning hits, of which the most notable was in the 56th over against Josh Hazlewood. He gave himself room and dispatched a length ball around middle and leg over deep forward square leg to bring up his maiden international six, also his first in first-class cricket.

The over-boundary came on the back of two consecutive fours off the second and the third ball of the Hazlewood’s previous over.

Joseph finished with 36 off 41, comprising three fours and a six, after being wrapped around his pads by Nathan Lyon in the 63rd over. This is now the highest score by a West Indian No.11 batter on Test debut.

The West Indies were all out for 188. Joseph then had a dream start to his bowling career as well, dismissing Steve Smith for 12 off 26 with his first ball before bouncing Marnus Labuschagne out for 10.
