Watch: Mohammad Shami Clean-Bowls Two In Two With Devastating Reverse-Swing

Watch: Mohammad Shami shattered Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry’s stumps in consecutive balls against New Zealand today (October 22), narrowly missing out on a second World Cup hat-trick.

India hit back against New Zealand at the end of the innings after Darryl Mitchell scored another century. The Blackcaps were leading with 243-4 after 45 overs to bat, but were bowled out for 273 in a flurry of wickets.

Shami was the main destroyer. He came on again in the 48th over and conceded three singles in his first three balls before playing a great pass to Santner. Bowling around the wicket to a left-handed bowler, Shami hit a perfect yorker. Santner didn’t hit the ball with his bat in time, and after tailing in, his bat hit the base of the stumps, knocking the ball off the ground.

New Zealand’s next out was Henry, who at the time were seven wickets down with 14 balls to spare. Shami gave him an equally good delivery first. The ball swung down towards the right-hander, slipped through, found a gap between Henry’s bat and the ball, hit his leg stump, and sent him flying several meters back.

Ferguson tried for a hat-trick ball, but Shami could not repeat his performance against Afghanistan in the 2019 World Cup. Ferguson managed to fend off a yorker attempt and survive. However, in the last over, Shami dismissed Mitchell with a brilliant catch of Virat Kohli and secured his third ODI his five for.
