Watch: Marnus Labuschagne was seen shooing away pigeons with his bat during the Boxing Day Test match against Pakistan at the MCG on day one, with seamer Hasan Ali later running towards them as well.
After the fifth ball of the 48th over of Australia’s innings, a flock of pigeons descended on the outfield of the MCG and the birds posed a ‘threat’ throughout the day. Labuschagne, who was on the non-striker’s side, decided to take matters into his own hands and ran towards them and tried to chase them away. He also decided to use the bat as a weapon, swinging it around while hitting the bird.
It was only partially successful, as the pigeons took off and congregated further into the outfield. So Hasan decided that he would fly them. He ran towards them, waving his hands wildly and imitating the motion of flying.
Australia finished the day with 187 wins and 3 losses, with Labuscagne unbeaten with 44 wins. Hasan, playing his first Test in almost a year, dismissed Usman Khawaja for 42.
