Watch: KL Rahul Accidentally Hits Match-Winning Six To Miss Out On Hundred, Sinks To Haunches

Watch: KL Rahul accidentally hit a six to win India’s opening match of the World Cup against Australia, stranding himself on 97 and finishing just short of a century.

Rahul came into bat when India fell behind at 2-3 in the first two overs and found themselves in a difficult situation. He then teamed up with Virat Kohli to score 165 runs and guided India to safety in a 200-run chase. The duo, along with Hardik Pandya, who was at the crease when Kohli was absent, started accelerating towards the goal.

With India needing 18 more runs to win, Rahul hit a six, then a four before hitting a single to reach 90. At the start of the 42nd over, Rahul had scored 91 strikes and India needed five runs to win. The only way for Rahul to reach his century before India reached the target was to hit a four and then a six. After four, the scores will be equal and Rahul will get his 95 points.

However, when Rahul tried to deny Pat Cummins’ drive-over cover for four, he accidentally hit the ball too far and the ball went over the ropes for a six. The match was now over and Rahul was unbeaten on 97.

Rahul couldn’t believe what he had just done, his eyes widened and he crouched on his butt. After taking some time to process what had happened, he stood up to shake hands with the Australian players. India won this match with a difference of 6 wickets and the next match of the tournament will be against Afghanistan on Wednesday 11th October.
