Watch: Jasprit Bumrah Bamboozles Kusal Mendis With Perfect Slower Ball After Yorker Set-Up

Watch: Jasprit Bumrah bowled a deceptive slower ball, forcing Kusal Mendis to be early into his shot, leading him to spoon the easiest of catches to the cover fielder in India’s Super Fours clash against Sri Lanka today (September 12).

India started well with the bat after winning the toss. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill went on to put on an opening partnership of over 50 to take India to 80-0. However, things went downhill from there as Dunith Wellalage and Charith Asalanka set up nets on the rotating track at his R-Premadasa Stadium.

India were bowled out for 213 with Welaraju scoring 5 points, Asaranka 4 points and Mahish Teekshana 1 point. This was the first time he lost all 10 wickets for India to submit his ODI.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, faced a new ball challenge in Jasprit Bumrah and did not get off to the best start. Bumrah continued his good form from the previous night’s game against Pakistan, bowling the new ball near the corners.

Pathum Nissanka became his first victim when he drove a typical outswinger to the wicketkeeper outside the off-stump in the third over of the innings. Mendis, who came to bat at number three, found it difficult to negotiate with Bumrah.

On the third ball of the seventh over, Mendis managed to save a sharp yorker aimed at his toe. However, he could not answer the next ball. A slow swerve and almost yorker-length delivery wide of the stumps was batted and covered by Mendis, who was unaware of the change of pace and late collapse.

The ejection was referred to the third umpire to determine whether the ball bounced after contact with the bat. However, replays showed that this was not the case and that it was a perfect catch.

Bumrah ended his first spell with figures of 1-21 from 5 overs.
