Watch: Ish Sodhi was out caught at short leg in a bizarre bat-pad dismissal on day two of the first BAN vs NZ Test in Sylhet today (November 29).
Bangladesh started the second day with a score of 310-9 after winning the toss on the first day and choosing to bat first. Today (November 29), their innings ended after just one ball, with Tim Southee catching Shoriful Islam off the first ball of the day, ending Bangladesh’s innings.
New Zealand opening pitchers Tom Latham and Devon Conway both looked stable until they came loose on spin. Latham was one off Taijul Islam for 21, while Conway was caught with a foolish 12 off the bowling of Mehdi Hasan Miraz.
Kane Williamson put together New Zealand’s innings with regular wickets falling around him. Darryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips were over 40 but could not reach a half-century.
Bangladesh won their first over with the second new ball. Taijul broke through Williamson’s defense and brought No. 9 Sodhi to the crease, making the score 262-7. Sodhi continued with his six balls and Taijul took his fourth wicket of the day in the next over.
A full ball throw from the outside slips through the angle and catches the inside edge as Sodhi comes forward to defend. Somehow it missed his off-stump by the beard, bounced off the wicketkeeper’s pads and fell to Shahadat Hossain, who was standing short of his leg.
Bangladeshi fielders unanimously appealed, but it was rejected by the umpire. They wasted no time in requesting a reconsideration, and the decision was ultimately overturned.
Sodhi’s wicket was New Zealand’s eighth wicket as they finished the day at 266-8, 44 runs behind Bangladesh.
