Watch: Commentator Ian Smith imitated Ravi Shastri to perfection on air during the India-Netherlands clash in the 2023 World Cup on Sunday (November 12).
Mr. Shastri, who oversaw the coin toss, greeted the spectators and spectators with Diwali wishes before proceeding with the coin toss formalities. His deep voice makes you instantly aware that this Indian has lent his words to many iconic moments of the past.
He was dissatisfied when Smith decided to imitate his voice on the broadcast and adjust his voice to suit Shastri’s tone during India’s first innings. Smith first imitated Shastri’s introduction by pretending to throw, and then in his tone wished his fans a happy Diwali.
Mr Shastri made matters worse by repeating Mr Smith’s remarks in the commentary box, making the third commentator Anjum Chopra laugh.
India finished the innings at 410 for 4, with the top five batsmen scoring over 50 runs each, which is a World Cup record.
