Watch: Haris Rauf danced on stage to prove that he was, indeed, fit for the World Cup in response to a question by a journalist at a media session in Lahore today (September 25).
Rauf injured his side during Pakistan’s Asia Cup Super Fours match against India and did not bowl on the preliminary day of the match. He did not feature in Pakistan’s next match against Sri Lanka, raising doubts about his participation in the World Cup.
However, he has been selected in Pakistan’s final squad for the World Cup and insisted he is fully fit to address the media in Lahore today (September 25). But the way he “proved” his suitability caused amusement.
When asked about his health, Rauf shifted, sat on a chair and started dancing, saying, “Birkul teku ji” (I’m perfectly fine).
Rauf was one of Pakistan’s leading sailors for some time. From his 28 ODIs, he picked his 53 wickets at an average of 24.32. They have already lost the services of Naseem Shah, who was ruled out of the World Cup due to a shoulder injury. Losing Rauf would have been a big blow, but Pakistan will be happy if he gets fit and can play in this tournament.
Naseem Shah has been replaced in Pakistan’s World Cup squad by Hassan Ali, who last played an ODI in June 2022. Pakistan’s World Cup campaign begins with a match against Netherlands in Hyderabad on October 6.
