Watch: Glenn Maxwell took a stunning, reflex-action return catch to dismiss Rohit Sharma during the third India-Australia ODI in Rajkot today (September 27), and was shocked at his own skills.
Chasing a massive total of 353 points, India got off to a brisk start with Rohit putting Australia’s attack on defense in the first powerplay. He hit two sharp inside-out sixes off Mitchell Starc and a few classic pull shots over the boundary.
At the end of the seventh over, Rohit had already hit five sixes. This is two more than he has ever batted in his innings of seven overs in the first ODI of his career.
Rohit reached 50 in 10 overs with just 31 balls. In an opening partnership of 78 against Washington Sundar, the Indian captain contributed 55. After 20 overs, India had scored almost 7 runs per over and the score was 135-1. Rohit had 75 of his 54 hits and looked promising for a big score.
However, due to Maxwell’s own bowling prowess, Rohit’s innings ended after 21 overs. Rohit hit the flat ball that hit the stumps back to the ground but it didn’t reach the desired height.
Maxwell extended his right hand and removed his head from the ball’s line of sight. Fortunately, he looked away and the ball found the center of his palm. He surprised himself and seemed to take a while to accept the fact that he had caught the ball.
Rohit was dismissed for 81 off 57 balls. A few overs later, Maxwell dismissed Virat Kohli, who had earlier taken wickets for Thunder for 18, for 56.
