England chose to bat first against the Netherlands, going from 133 wins to 1 loss to 192 wins and 6 losses, once again showing poor batting performance, and found themselves in a difficult situation. The defending champions, who have already advanced to the semi-finals, entered this match with a chance to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
During the period of consolidation, the last recognized batting pair, Stokes (108 runs) and Chris Woakes (51 runs), scored 129 runs. By the time the partnership was over and Woakes was behind in his 49th over, England were already out of danger and finished with a solid score of 339-9.
Stokes, who surpassed his previous World Cup record of 84 points in the 2019 final against New Zealand, was perhaps at his best in this tournament for the first time.
Facing Dutt on the second ball of the 45th over, he swayed and hit a brilliant four over covers. Stokes sent the third ball to reach deep midwicket in the sixth over, but was unable to take the ball to mid-on. Disappointed, he hit back-to-back hits on the fourth and fifth pitches. The last ball brought him 13 points, with Dutt conceding six runs with a waist-high full toss known as a no-ball, and then a maximum conceded with a free-kick.
