Watch: Peshawar Zalmi‘s Babar Azam was involved in a mix-up with opening partner Saim Ayub, which resulted in the latter’s run-out during their PSL 2024 game against Quetta Gladiators.
There was a mix-up when Babar and Syme had reached the opening score of 90 points. Saim hit Akair his Hossein past a diving fielder at cover and they exchanged ends for his second goal. Babar brought him back to safety, but a fall on the non-striker’s side created a chance for another point.
Babar called Syme this time, which was probably not a wise decision. Babar managed to run to the opposite end in time, but his partner, who was at the dangerous end, was unable to beat the throw. He was disappointed when Khawaja Nafai’s throw was intercepted by Sarfaraz Ahmed, who caught Saim just outside the goal area.
Syme hit a 26-ball 42. Babar continued to score and finished with 68 out of 42 points, but Zalmi fell short of their target of 207 points and lost by 16 points.
After the match, Babar apologized for the goal, believing it was his mistake and that it was the turning point in the match.
“With that (Saim Ayub’s) departure, we had a great partnership. Unfortunately, it was my mistake, but it turned out to be a turning point,” he said.
