Watch: Peshawar Zalmiβs Babar Azam, attempting to scoop a delivery, unleashed an uncharacteristically inventive stroke through deep point on his way to his second PSL century, against Islamabad United.
Babar finished undefeated with 111, taking Zalmi to 201 wins and 5 losses. He finished the match with a strike rate of 176.19, hitting 14 fours and two sixes. Among the top six batters, only fellow opening pitcher Saim Ayoub (38 in 21 games) had more than 20 hits. Asif Ali remained undefeated in 17 of his nine fights.
Babar reached his century in the 19th over, beating Hunain Shah by 23 runs in the previous over. It was a remarkable recovery for Zalmi, who was 125-5 after 15 overs.
At one point he scored 52 points out of 42, but the next he scored 48 points out of 17, creating several inventions in the process.
One such hit came from the 5th ball of the 20th over. Babar lined up to catch Faheem his Ashraf but changed his stance as the bowler sent him over the off-stump and expertly guided him to his fence at deep point for a boundary. Between the reverse point and short third man.
This is Babar’s 11th century in T20 cricket. Only Chris Gayle (age 22) has achieved more hundreds.
