Watch: Mohammad Rizwan dived full-length to his right to take a stunning catch inches off the ground on day two of the second Australia vs Pakistan Test in Melbourne today (December 27).
Australia started the second day of the Boxing Day Test at 187 for 3 but were unable to escape from the match due to close attacks from Pakistan. Shaheen Afridi dismissed Travis Head in his fifth over of the day, followed by Aamer Jamal almost 10 overs later to dismiss the dangerous-looking Marnus Labuschagne to push Australia back to 250-5.
Labuschagne’s wicket brought Alex Carey to the crease. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman fell prey to Afridi’s scheme and Rizwan’s brilliance behind the stumps and did not last long.
Afridi bowled a full ball outside the stumps, prompting Carey to drive at open cover. Carey took the bait and took an inside edge that sent the ball flying to the right of Rizwan. Rizwan reacted quickly and jumped length to catch the ball just a few centimeters above the turf.
But things were not all rosy for Rizwan behind the stumps. He earned a total of 20 byes throughout the innings. Pakistan restricted Australia to 318 in the first innings, with every bowler picking at least one wicket. They have had a strong response so far and in his first 35 overs he scored 124 runs despite losing one wicket.
