Watch: Shai Hope reached his maiden T20 century by smashing 32 runs in an over from Rahkeem Cornwall in a CPL 2023 match between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Barbados Royals on September 17.
Guyana were brought into the game by the Royals and got off to a quick start thanks to the in-form Saim Ayub and Odean Smith, who was promoted to opening pitcher. Hope’s 35 points placed him in third place.
Hope reached 26 with three fours and one six in his first eight pitches. He reached his fifty in the CPL for the fifth time this season in his 11th over of just 23 balls.
The Warriors were 153-2 after 15 overs, with Hope scoring 69 hits off 35 balls. Cornwall went into this game looking to play their final over of the season after losing 0-23 in their first three matches. What followed was a complete disaster.
Hope takes the first ball outside for a long-on boundary for four. Next he had three balls each falling over the midwicket fence, two from short balls outside and one from a larger ball on his pads.
Cornwall tried to correct the line further, but this time they ended up with another half-tracker almost outside the wide line. Hope shuffled to the front of the field with four people.
Cornwall responded with a high full toss on the pads and Hope smashed it into the leg side for the fourth six of the over to score his maiden T2000.
When Jason Holder sacked him, Hope had hit 106 off 44 pitches, hitting nine fours and eight sixes for a strike rate of 241. In his last nine balls he scored 37 runs.
The Warriors finished the game 226-7, winning by an 88-point margin.
