Peshawar Zalmi were bowled out for 154 as Karachi Kings captain Shan Masood won the toss and opted to play in the 2024 PSL match to be played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Peshawar fell to 40-3, but captain Babar Azam (72 off 51 balls) and Rovman Powell (39 off 25 balls) scored 68 points to lift the team with the fourth wicket. Stabilized. Apart from Asif Ali (16 off 23), they were the only players to reach double figures, with Mir Hamza returning 3-28 and Hassan Ali 3-30.
Despite an early onslaught from wicketkeeper Mohammad Akhlaq (24 off 13 balls), Luke Wood (2-20) scored two goals and after the powerplay, Karachi posted 48 I kept it to 2 wins and 2 losses. Shoaib Malik took 29 off balls, but Karachi always needed one more big over to decide the match. This happened in the 15th over, bowled by left-arm wrist spinner Waqar Salamkhair.
Karachi needed 45 off 36 balls as Waqar started the over by going over the wicket. The first ball hit leg stump and Pollard created space and smashed the ball over the bouncy forest and into the extra fence.
He bowled the second ball at long-on six times. Waqar bowled low and wide over the off-stump, but Pollard cut him furiously and took four runs. His next two balls were also over the bowler and over long off and he disappeared for a six. A helpless Waqar then released a googly, but Pollard read it and hit a single.
Karachi needed just 18 off 30 balls. They needed just an 11-wicket win for him as James Vince (30 not out for 38) and Pollard (49 not out for 21) secured his seven-wicket win.
