Virat Kohli Moves To No.3, Travis Head Takes Massive Leap After World Cup

Virat Kohli and Travis Head have climbed up the ICC men’s ODI player rankings following the conclusion of the 2023 Men’s World Cup.

Kohli has moved to third place in the rankings, just 33 points behind second-placed Babar Azam. He is also just 35 points behind his Indian teammate Shubman Gill, who maintains the top spot. Kohli scored 765 runs in the tournament, 168 runs ahead of second-placed Rohit Sharma at an average of 95.62, and was named the 2023 World Cup Player of the Year. He also scored six half-centuries, including 54 in the final. His three centuries he scored in this tournament surpassed Sachin’s Tendulkar’s record in men’s ODI cricket.

Rohit moved up one place to 4th place in the ranking with 769 points. This means there are three Indian players in the top five. Quinton de Kock finished in the top five after a great tournament, but he dropped two places in the ranking from his previous position.

Daryl Mitchell moves up five spots to sixth place in the top ten. Mitchell scored two centuries against India during the World Cup.

But Australian opening pitcher Travis Head took the biggest step forward after winning hundreds of games in the World Cup finals. Head scored 137 off 120 balls against India in Ahmedabad, taking Australia two runs closer to victory, but he was sent off. He returned from a broken hand and played midway through the group stage. In his first match for Australia he scored a goal against New Zealand. He then scored a half-century in a close semi-final against South Africa and won the Player of the Match award. This award was also given for their performance in the final.

Following these performances, Head has moved up a whopping 28th place in the ICC rankings and is currently 15th overall.

In the bowling rankings, Keshav Maharaj remains at the top, while Josh Hazlewood moves up four places to second place overall. Fellow Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has moved up eight places to 12th and Pat Cummins has moved up eight places to 27th.

Mohammed Siraj retained his third position while Jasprit Bumrah secured the all-India second row in fourth place.

There are no major changes in the all-rounder rankings within the top 10. Shakib Al Hasan remains at the top of the rankings, with a 33-point lead over second-placed Mohammad Nabi. Mitchell Santner moved two places down on him, putting him in seventh place, and Mehdi Hasan Miraz moved up two places on him, putting him in ninth place.
