Vasseur says track limits was larger issue in Qatar GP than heat

Frédéric Vasseur says the heat was not as big of an issue as the track restrictions at the Qatar Grand Prix.

Several issues occurred throughout the F1 GP weekend in Qatar. The heat particularly affected Sunday’s long race, before which curbs and track barriers caused further headaches for teams.

After Friday, we had to change our route slightly due to curbs. As a result, the session was extended by 10 minutes, resulting in a mandatory 18-lap stint. The heat only added to the misery caused by potential curb and tire issues.

For Ferrari F1 boss Vasseur, track restrictions were a bigger problem than the heat. “I would say the biggest issue for me over the weekend was the course limitations,” he said. “Because we know that when we go to Spielberg, we’re going to be faced with course restriction issues. There are course restriction issues here as well, and we won’t know the result until after his two hours of the race.

“And when we came before the weekend, we told them the exact same thing, that it was going to be a festival. And it was a celebration. Also, the riders had a little bit of focus at the end. I think there were some guys who were taking shots every lap for the last 10 laps. But you can’t blame them in this situation. We have to find a solution.

“I don’t think that’s good for the show, either,” he said. “At least on the pit wall you can see the number of hits, you can follow the history, you know where you are, etc. But when you think about the people sitting in front of the TV, they don’t know about the strike. I don’t have a story.

“And at one point they saw Gasly for 5 seconds, Gasly for 10 seconds, and Gasly for 15 seconds. You have to think about that too. I think you can foresee problems like this ” concluded Mr. Vasseur. Asked whether large-scale investments from host countries would lead to such a situation, he did not want to go into details, but wanted an overall solution to curb the problem. .

“We won’t go into this area because we don’t know who is responsible,” Bassour said. “But it’s not just about the curb. It’s about the whole process, the track layout, the curb, what happens after the curb. We have to find a solution.

“But as you said, I don’t want to go into this area and talk about investments, but we are coming to Qatar, they are organizing events and to achieve this result It’s a lot of effort.’ For me. It’s not championship level. ”
