BAN vs NZ, 1st ODI: Team news

Bangladesh rested their key players in the first two matches to get fit for the upcoming ODI World Cup. In the absence of Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das was appointed as stand-in captain. This series will see the return of veterans like Tamim Iqbal, Sowmya Sarkar and Mahmudullah. Three uncapped players – Zakir Hasan, the speedy Khalid Ahmed and the well-adjusted Rishad Hossain – were named in the 15-man squad. The pace battery consisting of Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehdi Hasan Miraz, and Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmood are resting players among other regular cricketers.

Meanwhile, New Zealand also announced a second team to keep an eye on the workload. Pacer Lockie Ferguson was given the leadership role. Regular captain Kane Williamson remains sidelined as he races against time to recover from a limb injury ahead of the main event in India. Other notable absentees from the Kiwi squad are Tom Latham, wicketkeeper-batsmen Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips, all-rounders Darryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner, and pacer Matt Henry. Veteran pacer Tim Southee, who injured his finger in the recent ODI series against England, is not included in the squad as the management plans to decide on his participation in the World Cup after surgery. James Neeshan and Mark Chapman have withdrawn from white-ball competition as they await the birth of their respective children.

Dean Foxcroft is the only player in Ferguson’s squad yet to receive an international cap.

Match prediction – Today’s Bangladesh-New Zealand live match

Despite their disappointing exit from the Super Fours in the 2023 Asia Cup, the Tigers have the home advantage of playing in their happy hunting grounds in Mirpur, Dhaka. The home team will be hoping to continue their 13-year unbeaten streak against tourists at home. In 2010 he won 4-0 against New Zealand and in 2013 he won 3-0 against New Zealand.

This series will be close as both sides have tested their teams. The return of left wing pacer Trent Boult, who is not on a midfield contract, will be a big advantage for the visiting team.
