South Africa, as always, will go into the World Cup with another strong team on paper. It remains to be seen how far they can go this time. Their midfield of Aiden Markram, Heinrich Claassen and David Miller will be in the spotlight on Derry’s typical low and slow surfaces. They are all good spin players and spinners Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj will also be in the spotlight.
Sri Lanka has experienced turbulent times. They obviously won the World Cup qualifiers undefeated, but lost in the Asian Cup final by a record margin. There are also calls for captain Dasun Shanaka to be dropped. # Heinrich Claassen has been doing incredibly well this year. He has a batting average of 58.6 and a strike rate of 151.4. He should be the first name on your team.
# Derry’s pitch is expected to be slow and deep, which could support the spin players Aiden Markram and David Miller. Markram also offers bowling options from which you can also earn points.
# Temba Bavuma has been great in ODIs this year, but most of his runs have been in South Africa. That will be a completely different challenge. Not choosing him isn’t the worst idea.
# Mashisha Pathirana did not play a single match against South Africa. His throwing action will be difficult for South African batsmen to target. He should be on your team.
# Danis Werlarage and Marco Jansen have been the best all-rounders in their respective teams over the past month. Both should be in the XI.
