“The competition is absurd” – Dessers optimistic about making Nigeria’s AFCON squad

Peseiro has plenty of attacking options, but Dessard is confident he can break into the AFCON squad

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessars is optimistic about representing Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Ivory Coast, Soccernet reported.

Coach Jose Peceiro wants to lead Nigeria to a fourth AFCON title in Ivory Coast next January, and he has the means to do so. Nigeria has some of the best players on the continent, especially in attack.

The Super Eagles have world champions such as Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface and dominate Serie A and the Bundesliga.

There are other stars like Taiwo Awoniyi and Sadiq Umar who can do anything on a good day.

However, even though Peseiro has excellent attackers, Dessers is trying to infiltrate the team. The Nigerian striker was not part of the Super Eagles squad during the recent international break but is optimistic he could be available by the time the final squad is announced in January.

“For the last few times, I was in Nigeria’s preliminary selection team but not in the final selection. According to Daily Record

“If you look at the other strikers and their form, you can understand that,” Dessers was quoted as saying.

“We have some players competing to be the third or fourth striker, but it depends on how things are going. Competition in Nigeria is ridiculous. I could have played for Belgium But I’m very happy with my choice

Dessars has not made much of an impression since joining Rangers from Cremona in the summer. The 28-year-old striker played in 20 games for Gers, where he scored 5 goals.

He will need to score plenty of goals for the former Scottish champions if he wants to qualify for AFCON.
