Former Nigeria youth international player aims to be included in continental championship squad
Montpellier striker Acol Jerome Adams has revealed that although he has had a great start to life in France, he has not been in touch with the staff of the Nigeria men’s national team, Soccernet.ng reports.
Adams scored two goals over the weekend to lead Montpellier to a 3-0 victory over Toulouse at the Stade de la Mosson Mondial 98.
These two impressive games took Adams to seven goals in just nine games in Ligue 1, making him the highest-scoring Nigerian in the French top flight.
Only PSG’s Kylian Mbappé (age 10) has scored more goals than Adams. Adams just arrived in France from Norway in the summer for less than €5 million.
However, coach Jose Peceiro preferred Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface and Umar Sadiq in Nigeria’s recent international appearances, so the 23-year-old was not included in the Super Eagles squad. There is no room for a striker.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to reconvene in late November for two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, but Adams is disappointed that no one has approached him and is confident that the team will is unlikely to join.
The Montpellier striker has vowed to continue to give his all for the French team until his fortunes at the Eagles change.
When asked after the match against Toulouse whether he had been invited to play for the national team, Adams replied: “Yes.
“At the moment, I remain focused on my performance in Montpellier. I have not had any contact with the selectors.”
For his goal against Toulouse, Adams praised his teammates for two great passes.
Montpellier took the lead in the 13th minute when Tej Savanier played a great pass to Adams, controlled it well on the left and crossed it to keeper Lestes on the right.
Midway through the second half, Joris Chotard repeated a similar move, allowing Adams to slip past the goalkeeper and score the winning goal of the match.
Adams said: “I praise the performance of the group, the important passers. Just like last time, this double did not happen alone, especially Joris Chotard and Tej Savanier.
“This is a very important victory for us. We continued to work as a family this week. We continued to focus on the group and not look at what was going on around us. That’s a declaration of victory.”
Adams could face his biggest challenge in France next weekend when Montpellier travel to Paris to face champions PSG.
