The long-awaited debut of KAA Gent’s two star players to the Super Eagles did not take place as they did not have time on the field to represent their country.

The 2013 AFCON champions defeated Sao Tome 6-0 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, but they did so without the help of Orbán and Tornalija.

Meanwhile, Peseiro made it clear to the media that Orbán was suffering from a muscle strain and that it was essential to respect the club’s rules that require permission to use injured players.

“Orbán felt pain in his muscles.” He cannot play due to injury, as he needs permission from the club. We have a good relationship with the club,” Peseiro explained.

Meanwhile, former Hertha BSC star Jordan Tornalija, who recently announced his intention to play for the Super Eagles, had to wait for his chance.

Peseiro pointed out that substitutes for this game were limited and Tornalija will have chances in the future.

“With Jordan, you can replace five players and start 11 players. Onyedika came twice and also played with Tyrone for the first time. It was Jordan’s first time. He has time.”

The Super Eagles finished their AFCON qualifying group with 15 points after a comfortable win over Sao Tome and Principe.
