Mohammed Siraj has risen to the No.1 position in the ICC bowling charts, after a stunning display in the 2023 Asia Cup final, where he ended with 6-21 against Sri Lanka.
Shiraj, who was ranked ninth last week, has moved up eight places on the men’s bowling charts, overtaking Josh Hazlewood for the top spot. The Indian quick didn’t have the best start in the Asia Cup, taking his four wickets in his first three innings, but in the final he played arguably one of his best matches in recent years. I played and showed my skill.
Siraj started the Asia Cup final by picking four wickets in one over to reduce Lankans to 12-6, finishing with the fourth-best bowling performance by an Indian bowler. This was his first five-wicket haul in this format.
Siraj currently has 694 points, 14 more than Australia’s Josh Hazlewood, who is currently playing in the ODI series against South Africa. He fell back to his second place with Trent Boult filling the top three.
In the hit charts, Gill moved up to number one from Babar Azam and earned 814 points, the highest in his career so far. Gill, who scored 100 runs against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup, is the only batsman to score 800 runs.
He is currently 43 points behind the Pakistan captain who still holds the top spot as of July 2021. Rassie van der Dussen finished in the top three.
