Shubman Gill, still recovering from dengue, has arrived in Ahmedabad ahead of the India-Pakistan clash on October 14.
Shubman Gill had to miss India’s first two World Cup matches due to dengue infection There were also fears that he might not even travel to Ahmedabad for the third match against India. However, in a positive sign for the hosts, the opening star appears to be in good form as he arrived in Ahmedabad three days before the India-Pakistan match in the city on October 14.
Gill was hospitalized after the first match between India and Australia in Chennai on October 8. He was under the supervision of a medical team and did not travel to Delhi, the venue for the second World Cup match between India and Afghanistan on October 11.
Ishan Kishan replaced Gill in the eleven for the first two matches. Kishan scored a golden duck in his memorable World Cup debut against Australia, while he came back strong with a run-a-ball 47 against Afghanistan in Delhi.
It is still unclear whether Gill will be available for the India vs Pakistan match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, but the fact that he has started accompanying the team is a step in the right direction. That suggests his return may not be far away.
Gill was India’s top scorer in ODIs this year, scoring 1,230 runs at an average of 72.4 with five half-centuries and five centuries.
During the Super Fours match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, Gill achieved his best performance by scoring 52 balls and 58 balls in the first innings against Shaheen Afridi.
India hopes that Gill will be available for the match against Pakistan. Already he has won two matches and is full of confidence. Gill’s return will further strengthen his Indian team.
