Shane Bond Joins Rajasthan Royals As Bowling Coach And Assistant Coach Ahead Of IPL 2024

Former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond will be the new bowling and assistant coach of the Rajasthan Royals franchise for the upcoming 2024 IPL season. Bond previously played in Mumbai Indians (MI) where he served as his bowling coach for nine years.

Bond played 18 Tests for New Zealand from 2001 to 2009 and was also New Zealand’s bowling coach from 2012 to 2015. He was part of his 2015 team that reached the final at the ICC Cricket World Cup. Bond bowled for the Mumbai Indians from 2015 until 2023. He also worked as his coach and with the team he won four of his IPL titles.

“I am very happy to be joining the Royals. This is a forward-thinking franchise that is determined to succeed and I am excited to be part of that vision. This bowling group has a great mix of youth and experience. and are great to work with,” Bond said.

This also means that Bond has ended his role as head coach of MI Emirates, the Mumbai Indians team in the UAE ILT20.

Rajasthan Royals Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara welcomed Bond to the franchise. Shane Bond will replace Lasith Malinga as bowling coach. Malinga returned to the Michigan State camp as the bowling coach.

He is someone with a keen instinct for making the best teams even better. We are excited to welcome him to the franchise and look forward to his impact making us a title-winning team,” Sangakkara said in a statement cited by Cricbuzz.
