Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan returned to the team after missing the last World Cup 2023 match, against India, due to an injury. His South African counterpart Temba Bavuma, however, is yet to recover and sat out.
Shakib injured his quadriceps muscle in the match against New Zealand and missed the match against India, but returned for the match against South Africa on October 24. He started in place of middle-order batsman Towahid Hridoy.
Meanwhile, Bavuma, who missed the match against England due to a stomach illness, is yet to fully recover. Vice-captain Aiden Markram will continue to lead South Africa in his absence after captaining England to a 229-run victory. He won four times and lost four times while leading his country. Pacer Lungi Ngidi is also out due to a minor knee problem and will be replaced by Lizard Williams.
Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign appears to be in disarray after their victory over Afghanistan, followed by three consecutive defeats against England, New Zealand and India.
On the other hand, South Africa played solid cricket and defeated big teams such as England and Australia by wide margins. With the exception of the unexpected loss to the Netherlands, they have scored over 300 points in each game. They recorded 428 wins and 5 losses against Sri Lanka, the highest record in the history of the Men’s World Cup, 311 wins and 7 losses against Australia and 399 wins and 7 losses against England.
