Serie A: Napoli lose further ground in Scudetto race after loss to Juventus

Victor Osimhen played 90 minutes for the first time in over a month last week, but could not help Napoli, who lost 3-0 to Inter Milan.

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen failed to inspire Napoli as they lost by just one point to Juventus at the Allianz Arena in Turin, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ahead of the long-awaited matchup, Napoli wanted to make a statement in today’s game as they had won only one of their previous five matches.

Victor Osimhen started up front, with Hviča Kvaratschelia and Mateo Politano on the flanks as they look to earn promotion to Serie A.

Just seven minutes into the game, the home team almost scored the first goal. A pass from McKennie sent Cambiaso into the box on the right, and his shot went wide of the target.

Kvaratskhelia missed a great chance just before the half-hour mark after a pass from Osimhen found the Georgian in space and crossed the line, but it somehow went wide.

Napoli almost broke the deadlock again a few minutes before half-time. Zielinski’s free kick caused confusion in the host team’s defense and the ball fell into the path of Giovanni di Lorenzo. The captain took a volley, but Wojciech Szczesny was up to the task.

The away team took the lead in the second half and even hit the crates, but it was the hosts who scored first, with Federico Gatti putting Juventus ahead.

McKennie delivered a cross to Cambiaso, who hit Gatti at the far post. The defender then carefully slotted the ball into the net, scoring the only goal of the match.

Victor Osimhen thought he had scored an equalizer for Gli Azzurri before the linesman raised his flag and had the goal ruled out for offside. The Neapolitans continued to fight, but they did not.

Tonight’s defeat means Napoli have lost four of their last five games and sit fifth in the league, 12 points behind leaders Juventus.
