Serial pitch invader “Jarvo 69” interrupted India’s opening World Cup game against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai today (October 8).
India’s first World Cup match got off to a rocky start when prankster Daniel Jarvis, better known as ‘Jarbo 69’, stormed into the playing area at Chidambaram Stadium in Massachusetts just before the match started.
Australia won the toss and chose to bat first. The Indian team and the umpire were on the field when ‘Yarbo 69’ somehow broke through the fence surrounding the stands and entered the field and approached Virat Kohli, but he had to be escorted off the field along with the umpire. There wasn’t.
This is not the first time that ‘Yarbo 69’ has violated security protocols and entered the playing area of a cricket match involving India. His first appearance in an Indian match in 2021 was in India’s second Test match against England at Lord’s.
He then did the same thing several times and was convicted of aggravated trespass in September 2022. However, this was the first time he had invaded an Indian venue.
‘Jarvo 69’ has a YouTube channel with over 180,000 subscribers, where you can watch videos of his adventures on the cricket pitch.
This incident raises safety concerns, especially as it occurred on one of cricket’s biggest stages. But fortunately there was no major delay and the match started on time with Jasprit Bumrah bowling the first run of the innings.
Bumrah got the first wicket of the game by getting Mitchell Marsh to back Kohli at first slip for a duck. David Warner then struck Steve Smith for the second wicket and he forged a 69-run partnership before Kuldeep was caught and bowled by Yadav and was dismissed for 41.
After 25 overs, Australia’s score was 102-2.
