Seamers And Will Young Lead Rout Of Bangladesh To Seal Series Win

New Zealand comfortably beat Bangladesh in the final ODI of the series yesterday (September 26), Will Young playing a vital knock of 70 runs off 80 balls to lead the visitors to a comfortable 2-0 series win – their first in the country for 15 years.

Bangladesh batted first after the toss and lost openers Zakir Hasan and Tanjid Hasan within 13 balls, thanks to new ball bowlers Adam Milne and Trent Boult. Towhid Hridoy clipped a throw from Milne into the hands of Young, who was at point, and lost his third wicket in 5.2 overs.

In the build-up period that followed, captain Nazimul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim forged a 53-run partnership to take the team’s score to 88-3 in 15 overs. Just when the home side seemed to be out of danger, Mushfiqur was bizarrely sent off following a challenge from Milne.

He finished with his record of 6-34-4.

New Zealand easily attacked difficult targets and caught up without any problems in 34.5 overs. Opener Will Young top-scored with 70 runs and 80 deliveries, including 10 fours and sixes. He was named “Player of the Match”. The tourists won the series 2-0, ending a 13-year losing streak domestically. In 2010 he lost 4-0 and in 2013 he lost 3-0.
