Carlos Sainz was perplexed by the dark patch that ended the 2023 F1 season, even though the end of the year is usually his strongest period.
After a strong second half of F1 2023 with a win at the Singapore GP, Ferrari driver Sainz’s season did not end well with two crashes in Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi. The former was not under his control, which caused him to back down.
The pace was good for a podium, but Sainz had to settle for points in the race to catch up. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix could be his worst result of 2023 as he simply lacked the pace both in qualifying and in the race itself.
This was an unexpected outcome considering Sainz usually gains momentum as the season progresses, but that was not the case in 2023. He feels it has put a dark stain on an otherwise very good year in which he has gone head-to-head with Charles Leclerc.
“The last two weeks didn’t end the year the way I expected or the way we wanted,” Sainz told the media. “To be honest, it was very disappointing and obviously not happy considering how close we were in the constructors’ championship in the end. “The pace in Abu Dhabi and the general feel of the car were not good. .Overall, I think this year has been a good year for me.
“We’ve had a more consistent year and we’ve gotten a little bit more shine. But like I said, I’m not happy with the last two races, which left a dark shadow on the season.” Past 2 The race shows that. And the way everything went wrong for me in the last two races has been very dramatic in some ways, but that’s the reality.
“Sometimes the year goes by like this. Usually the end of the season is my biggest strength, but this season for some reason that wasn’t the case. It’s time to think about what I could have done better in the race and come back stronger,” Sainz concluded.
