Roger Federer says coming out of retirement is ‘not even a thought’

Roger Federer reveals coming out of retirement is ‘not even a thought’

Roger Federer has revealed that he is not even considering returning to professional tennis after being awarded the honor of winning his 20th Grand Slam at a ceremony at the Shanghai Masters.

Federer will retire after the 2022 Laver Cup, where he played a doubles match alongside Rafael Nadal. The Swiss was forced to end his career due to a series of knee problems.

At the ATP in Shanghai, where the two-time former champion was presented with the Icon Athlete Award, Federer revealed how he came to the decision to end his career.

“There was no plan per se. I always wanted to go back, but suddenly I realized it was over,” said the 42-year-old.

He continued. “And I thought, ‘Okay, that’s done, now what do I do?’ Now I feel like I have more control over my schedule than I ever did before, which was good, to be honest.

“I have to be careful not to do too much, but at the same time I love being busy. I love being with other people. I love being with my family. I also love traveling.” But sometimes you think, “I love traveling.” You just have to find the right balance and I feel like I have it, so that’s great. ”

Although Federer is not on the court as much as he used to, he said he is still trying to stay healthy as he hopes to play in friendlies in the future.

“I try to go to the gym four times a week and I can’t believe I’m actually doing it. “I rented a space in my house, set up the equipment, and a week after the Laver Cup… Arriving in London, it felt like I finally got the gym after my career,” the former No. 1 explained.

“It was a little strange when I retired, so now I have to use it. So I’m feeling good and I don’t play much tennis anymore, so I have to work a little harder.” Be careful about what you eat. I want to participate in an exhibition later, so I want to get in shape and look as good as possible. ”

Federer is such a popular figure that fans often speculate that he will reverse his decision to retire.

But he completely ruled out that possibility. “If I had known that my knee would prevent me from playing at this level, I would never have thought that I would be able to step on the court right now.” I enjoy playing tennis and record my results almost every day. I am. I’d like to see what’s going on there. ”

Federer concluded as follows. We had a great time and would come back again. I feel really happy to be here in Shanghai. I love freeing myself and no two days being the same. That is wonderful. ”

In the baseline…

Due to the nature of his retirement, it will come as no surprise to many that Federer has no plans to return to the professional arena. However, the fact that he is scheduled to play an exhibition match at some point in the future should be encouraging for fans, who will get a chance to see one of the greatest tennis players in history compete again.
