Rahul Dravid: Shubman Gill Could Play V Australia Despite Suffering From Dengue

India coach Rahul Dravid has mentioned that Shubman Gill has not yet been ruled out of the India-Australia World Cup game due to dengue.

Gil has been having trouble with the weather for the past few days and is suffering from a fever. It was reported today that he has tested positive for dengue fever, which has almost ruled him out of India’s World Cup opener against Australia on October 8.

However, in a press conference today (October 6), Dravid said that Gill has not been officially ruled out of the match against Chennai yet. He said Gill’s condition is improving and the medical team will monitor him and confirm his status on game day.

“His condition is clearly better today. The medical team is monitoring him every day. Let’s see what decision they will make in the next 36 hours. How is he feeling today? is definitely improving, and the medical team has not yet ruled him out. We will continue to monitor him daily. Let’s see how he feels the day after tomorrow,” Dravid said.

Gill’s absence will be a big blow for India. He was India’s top scorer in his ODIs this year, scoring five centuries and averaging over 70 as he scored over 1,200 runs.

In the recently concluded ODI series against Australia, Gill scored 178 runs in two innings. These include his 74 runs off 64 balls in his first ODI at Mohali and his 104 runs off 97 balls at Indore.

If Gill is absent, India will probably opt for Ishan Kishan in his place in the top order. Kishan is one of the reserve batsmen in the team along with Suryakumar Yadav. However, of these two, only his Kishan has experience of opening in ODIs.
