Perth Scorchers’ up-and-coming Australian all-round star will lead the team for the remainder of the BBL season, replacing injured Ashton Turner. The 30-year-old will miss the remainder of the Scorchers’ title defense due to a torn meniscus in his right knee.
Ashton Turner stumbled off the field after making a throw against the Hobart Hurricanes, but the team seemed optimistic about his return. However, he underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee on Friday morning and is said to not be playing in the BBL again this season.
Although Aaron Hardy is not officially vice-captain, he has been appointed captain of the Perth Scorchers, replacing vice-captain Josh Inglis. Hardy, who made his ODI and T20 debut for Australia this year, was an important player for the team.
“One of our great strengths is that we can easily use this experience and knowledge to improve the whole team. The whole team stays focused and united to win more titles. I’m confident that it will give me the best chance to do so,” Aaron Hardy said.

Perth Scorchers head coach Adam Voges acknowledged that Ashton Turner’s absence would be a significant loss to the team for the remainder of the season, but believes it will provide an opportunity for Aaron Hardie to demonstrate his leadership skills at the highest level, with the support of coaching staff and experienced players within the leadership group.
“Clearly, losing AT is disappointing, but his injury presents an opportunity for Aaron to display his leadership skills during the tournament, We have long viewed Aaron as a leader of promise”.
